Steve Jobs: How to live before you die | Video on TED.com
Not strictly biology but worth listening to. This man had exactly the same number of minutes in every day as the rest of the humans on this planet. What are you doing with yours? Scholarship classes at VUW
During the holidays there are scholarship workshops being held at Victoria University. These
are organised by VUW Student Recruitment.
This is a great opportunity for those that are keen.
This
year chemistry and physics workshops are at the Kelburn campus. They will take
a similar form to previous years with information about approaching the scholarship
papers and lots of practice opportunities in different areas of the
disciplines.
The online registration link is here with the 2011 timetable and room locations:

Multiregional vs. Out of Africa | john hawks weblog
Multiregional vs. Out of Africa | john hawks weblog: "Both hypotheses have to account for the same basic set of facts:
Humans first left Africa and established populations in other parts of the world (first southern Asia, China, and Java, later Europe) by 1.8 million years ago.
Humans today are quite different anatomically and behaviorally from archaic people (that is, most humans before 40,000 years ago) anywhere in the world. Recent people are called "modern" humans.
Human populations today are genetically very similar to each other.
African populations today are more genetically diverse than populations in other parts of the world.
Recent humans in Europe and Asia share a few features with the ancient archaic people who lived in those places before 40,000 years ago."

Climate Change Internal
Subject: Climate Change
Hi _______
- What is climate change?
- Why is the topic an issue? What are the differing opinions as to the degree of damage to ecosystems by climate change?
- What are the biological, social, ethical, economic or environmental implications of the change in biodiversity due to climate change?
I assume you are wanting clarification on the last two bullet points.
An issue is one for which people hold differing opinions or viewpoints. This is an issue due to the unknown outcome of the changes we are currently observing. Scientists have a range of opinions and predictions about the impact of climate change on Biodiversity.
Economic implications could be how the changes in biodiversity due to climate change could impact financially on trading and other activities of groups of humans now and in the future.
Environmental implications have a large overlap with Biological implications but may include effects on abiotic factors in the environment as well as biotic factors.
I hope this helps I will also post your enquiry and my answer on the yr 13 Biology blog (without including you name) so that other students can also benefit from your question.
Regards
Mr Edwards

Welcome to Year 13 Biology 2011
This blog exists to aid communication and learning about the year 13 Biology course. During the year I will attempt to post course outlines, activities and handouts on this blog so that you can easily catch up with what is happening in class.
It has been said that students that post comments to this blog will gain better grades in the course over the year. I'm not sure how true that is but I'd try it if I was you.
